Greetings Kenosha Yacht Club Members
We have had lots of changes around the KYC this month. The Biggest of which was the needed rate change. These changes were implemented to help us gain independence from having a restaurant and to help the club with rising insurance, utility, and other fixed costs. It is the first increase in many years and I sincerely hope our members will support this change and that we will have no losses in membership. If this causes a hardship for anyone, you are encouraged to contact the Board to discuss options that are available to you. These conversations will be kept confidential. I think this needed change will move the KYC in a more viable direction.
Another big change is the opening of our bar managed by Clair Pauschert and Brody Chamberlin. We have been primarily open to members for several weeks and look forward to opening to the public soon. Watch for our official Grand Opening to be announced. We are very pleased with the support that has been given to our new bar by Club members and also the public.
We recently discovered that we were in possession of a handcrafted wooden ship which had been unceremoniously hidden in plain sight in our restaurant. It has been loaned to the Kenosha History Center and will be reconditioned and displayed in the Lighthouse. This boat has quite a story behind it and Pat Cooper knows the story. If you see Pat around the Club, ask him about it.
We also had our Annual Chili Cookoff and lots of good food was offered. The winners were: 1st Place – Dave Marchal; 2nd Place – Eric Routman and 3rd Place – Dan Newman. Congratulations to our winners! And thanks to Deb for planning this event. Following our chili sampling, we were treated to a great informational conversation and demonstration by retiring sailmaker, Joe Davis. Thanks for the helpful workshop, Joe!
It is time to start looking toward our April Fools Regatta on Saturday, April 7th. Patrick Perlman is busy planning this event for us so watch for the details. We are also planning our 60th Blessing of the Fleet for Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 10:30am. If you are available to help set up or take down from this event, you can sign up on the members only website by going to “volunteering” under the “members” section. Thanks in advance to all who will be available for this special event.
The weather is changing and folks are already on their boats preparing them for the upcoming boating season! It is great to see action on the dock and we look forward to another great boating season!
