60th Annual Blessing of the Fleet at Kenosha Yacht Club
Kenosha, WI: After our seemingly endless winter, The Kenosha Yacht Club (KYC) is determined to conduct the 60th Annual Blessing of the Fleet on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 10:30am.. Everyone is invited to participate, even if it is snowing.
Boats will line up at the KYC dock to participate in the blessing. After the ceremony, the Coast Guard Boat, accompanied by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Marine Unit, clergy and other officials embark on the Blessing. The entourage will travel to the Great Lakes Marina, and then to Southport Marina and bless the boats there.
Anyone who wishes to have a boat blessed should arrive at the Kenosha Yacht Club dock by 10am. Boats are encouraged to display their“Brag Flags”. Boats in the Great Lakes or Southport Marina may stay in their slips for the blessing, if desired.
Officiating will be Rev. Joyce Rinehart, and Deacon Terry Maack.
Best viewing of the blessing is on the friendly grounds of the KYC. In addition, the parade route is visible from much of the harbor. Favorite locations are: 1) across the harbor in Veteran’s Park, 2) either side of the channel linking Lake Michigan and the Harbor, 3) from the bridge on 50th leading to Simmons Island or 4) near the Southport Marina.
After the Blessing, there will be a Brunch at the Kenosha Yacht club. Tickets will cost $15/adult and $7/child under 12.
The Kenosha Community Sailing Center (KCSC) will be on hand with information and fun for everyone from newbies to old salts.
