July 2019

Summer Greetings KYC Members and Friends,

We find ourselves deep in the heart of summer with the lake in motion as boats motor, sail and race in the waters off Kenosha. Even though the water continues to rise, we have found ways to stay safe and enjoy each day.

Our restaurant is going strong welcoming members and the public in for a good meal and a refreshing drink. I encourage our members to stop by the club and enjoy our Bar and Restaurant as often as possible. Roger and his staff are ready to serve you. Remember to have your membership card ready and tell your server that you are a KYC Member so you can take advantage of your 20%-member discount. While you are there, check out the ship’s store located in the bar area and buy yourself a new KYC hat, shirt or hoodie. Thanks to everyone who is helping to make our Bar and Restaurant grow!

Tribute Island is over and we had a good weekend. The weather was better than last year and once the heat of Friday moved on it was very enjoyable. Even the Saturday evening rain did not stop the fun. The restaurant did a great job and I thank them as well as all the club volunteers who made this event happen for us.

Congratulations to all who participated in the Hook and Mac races! We especially congratulate Doug Vaccarello who raced his 30th Hook and took 1st place in his division. As always, the Kenosha Yacht Club was well represented and each of you did a great job. Check out the list of racers.

The small crane has been down and is in the process of being repaired. Thanks to Sandy, Doug and Jim for you work on the this project. Thanks to all who use it for your patience.

The long-awaited Kenosha Tall Ships Event is only a few days away and we are all working 24/7 to make sure the KYC does its share of the work associated with this amazing experience. A special thanks to Sue Hill for overseeing our 80 volunteers, to Doug Vaccarello for gathering and supervising the Line Handlers, to Virginia Hartley for organizing the Ship Liaison Officers, and to Deb Strouf for overseeing the Bar and Restaurant operations, to Jim Buck and Bettie and Paul Westcott for keeping the KCSC on board in many ways. You are all doing an awesome job and I appreciate every minute you have spent on our Tall Ship’s preparations.

We also send out a huge “thank you” to Patti Lock, organizer of the event, for her guidance and willingness to answer ALL our questions and come by the club to help with many training sessions.

An event like this takes an amazing number of volunteers to make it happen and we can use more so if you have not volunteered yet, please see Sue’s email or article in this Mainsheet and do so today. Everyone has something to offer and we appreciate the giving of your time whether it is for an hour or an entire event. Sign up, come on out and enjoy Kenosha Tall Ships 2019!

Hope to see you all at Tall Ships!

Commodore Bob

      thanks, Doug

    • Summer is flying by but its great to finally see the weather change for the good. Tribute Island and the Tall Ships have impacted our race schedule but with a few Wednesday races thrown in, we are on track for a great race season. With six more weeks of racing and maybe ten weeks of sailing, I hope everyone makes the best of it - I’m also speaking to myself as I’m hoping to make up for lost time on the water!

Please pay attention to the calendar for racing -Events

Race results to date can be found at -Racing Results
